I wanted to make sure that there were no illegal dealing prior to the car being sold to me, so I took it to the police to check that the engine and chassis numbers were all in order. The police impounded the car because the VIN number was changed.

The vehicle had a new body and therefore a new VIN number.

I need advise please, because I have now lost my money and the car has been impounded and the police won’t release it. The police say that the only reason for the impound is that the body has been changed. We have given them proof of the body being purchased from a reputable company (normally buy and resell insurance write-offs)

What do I do, where do I go. The documentation is all in order with the licensing department.
